Tomoshibi
― Light
ともした小さな火・あかり。あかし。
tomoshita chiisana hi akari akashi
「僕らの行く先を―が照らす」
bokura no ikusaki wo tomoshibi ga terasu

a source of illumination, such as a small fire or a torch
"A light shows us the way."

●これがまさにその証しだ。
 Kore ga masani sono akashi da
― This clearly illuminates that fact.

●自国語の辞書編纂は国家の威信をかけてなされるべきという考えからでしょうか?
 Jikokugo no jisho hensan wa kokka no ishin wo kakete nasareru beki toiu kangae kara deshou ka
― Perhaps the thinking is that editing your native language's dictionary is a matter of national pride?

食道にガンがあることが判りました。

the quality or state of being proud
"He had pride in his work"

●これは相当大変な作業になると思います。
 Kore wa soutou taihen na sagyou ni naru to omoimasu
― this is going to be quite an undertaking.

●変に心配かけて体に障るといけないし。
 Henni shinpai kakete karada ni sawaruto ikenai shi
― We don't want anything distracting him from his health.

体に障る: bad for health; affect one's health

●良い機会ですからゆっくり養生なさってください。
 Ii kikai desu kara yukkuri youjou nasatte kudasai
― But this is a good opportunity for you to take things slow.

養生する: take care of one's health

●少し骨休めをなさってから復帰していただけたらと思います。
 Sukoshi honeyasume wo nasatte kara fukki shite itadaketara to omoimasu
― We'd love to have him back after a little R&R.

zenshin ni chishio ga kakemeguru

to run or pass rapidly along an indicated path
"Blood courses throughout my body"

血潮 literally means blood circulating within the body.

●昨晩はめれんに見えましたしね。
 Sakuban wa meren ni miemashitashi ne
― You seemed rather inebriated last night as well.

●大いに酒に酔うこと。酩酊
 Ooini sake ni you koto. Meitei.
― "Affected by drinking too much alcohol. Drunkenness,"

 Gokyouji itadakereba saiwai desu
― Your guidance would be most appreciated.

― I'm such a fool. A dolt. A joke. A numbskull. An imbecile.

To move forward step by step
"I will make steady progress despite difficulty"

●大渡海、中止になるらしい。
 Daitokai chuushi ni naru rashii
― Apparently they're going to shelve The Great Passage.

既成事実を作っちゃうんすよ。
 kisei jijitsu wo tsukucchaunsu yo
― we create an established entity.

●ほら案外この業界狭いじゃないっすか。
 Hora angai kono gyoukai semai ja nai ssu ka
― You know how close-knit this industry is.

目先の利益ばかり気にしてるんじゃ、とか。

"The vastness of the ocean"

●茫漠とした言葉の海
 Boubaku to shita kotoba no umi
― The vast ocean of words.

●海を渡る術を持たない僕たちは、そこでただ佇む
 Umi wo wataru sube wo motanai bokutachi wa soko de tada tatazumu
― Without a means to cross the ocean, we can only stand and watch,
