The event is hold at junior high and high school, and it's also called "class match" or "sports taikai."

It's a Japanese-English word derived from "yankee."

― They can often be found in groups, so bountiful catches are not unusual.

●渚君を餌にカツアゲを釣って逆にお金を巻き上げよう！
　Nagisa-kun wo esa ni katsuage wo tsutte gyaku ni okane wo makiageyou
― Let's use Nagisa as bait to catch the ones that try to shake him down and fleece them instead!

― Nah, it'd be kind of awkward.

ばつが悪い (batsu ga warui): awkward, uncomfortable, embarrassing

●要するに見世物さ。

― Basically, it's just a spectacle.

　Orera sarashimon toka kanben da wa
― We aren't sticking around to be laughingstocks.

●先生、一度スポ根ものの熱血コーチをやりたかったんです。
　Sensei ichido supokon mono no nekketsu coachi wo yari
― I've always wanted to be the fiery coach in a sports drama.

スポ根 is short for "スポーツ根性もの (sports konjou mono: sports-and-tough-spirit stuff)," and it's one of the genres of manga, anime, and drama.
