Amagi Brilliant Park Episode 1

甘城ブリリアントパーク

The previous novel is "Full Metal Panic!"
The story is set in an imaginary city called 甘城市(Amagi City), western Tokyo.

"蟹江(Kanie)" is used as a family name, but the surname "可児江" isn't be hit at all.

In Japan you can find love hotels in residential urban areas, on country road, or anywhere.
At least a certain distance from schools, hospitals or other facilities is required, though.

●魔法の国メープルランドから来たマスコットたちが住んでいる夢いっぱいのメルヘンエリア。

― It's a fairy-tale area of dreams in which mascots from Maple Land, the realm of magic, reside.

It's derived from the German word "märchen."

― That's doesn't soud very dreamy at all, Sento Isuzu.

~肌: type, spirit, trait ≒ ~かたぎ(katagi)

●甘ブリの看板マスコットでもあるわ。
 Amaburi no kanban mascot demo aru wa
― He's also Amaburi's lead mascot.

看板 literally means signboard, but the word 看板娘(kanban-musume) is often used.
It means poster girl or feature female staff of shops.

●彼の作るお菓子を食べると夢と希望が広がるの。
 Kare no tsukuru okashi wo taberuto yume to kibou ga hirogaru no
― Eating his sweets will fill you with hopes and dreams.

― My reflexes will rock your thigh-high socks off.

That is a happy expression.

― Hey, this is way too difficult!

It's short for "無理ーム(muri na game: impossible game)"

lt's literally translated "By which mouth is that said?" and used ironically.

― How do you feel, Kanie-kun, now that you and Moffle have conversed with your fists?

一方的に殴られただけだ!
 Ippouteki ni nagurareta dake da
― "Conversed"? He just hit me for no reason!

― He's just a violent rat with a hat.

●どんなチンピラが中に入ってるのやら。

― There's gotta be some kinda hoodlum inside that thig.

― You try not to disillusion kids by insisting there's no actor inside.

●いわゆるお約束の設定だな。

― Talk about clichéd.

中の人などいないの。
 Naka no hito nado inai no
― There really is nobody inside.

There is a net meme "中の人などいない(naka no hito nado inai)."

●4人の精霊がステージをしているわ。
 Yonin no seirei ga stage wo shiteiru wa
― where four fairies take the stage.

Both 精霊(seirei) and 妖精(yousei) is transleted fairy, but there are some shades of difference.

精霊: being close to nature itself
妖精: visible individual close to nature


●磨き抜かれたダンスとあっと驚くワイヤーアクションが見所よ。
 Migakinukareta dance to a tto odoroku wire action ga midokoro yo
― Their perfect dance moves and scintillating wire action are the real highlights.

●スリルと興奮をのせて走る疾風怒濤の弾丸列車よ。
 Thrill to koufun wo nosete hashiru shippuu-dotou no dangan-ressha yo
― A raging bullet train of thrills and excitement.

It's a four-character idiom.

疾風: turbulent wind + 怒濤: blustering wave

 Amaburi no saishin goods ga mejirooshi yo
― It's packed to the brim with Amaburi's latest merchandise.

●凄まじい昭和臭だな。
 Susamajii shouwa-shuu dana
― This stuff is so last century.

"昭和" is name of the era previous to the present era "平成(Heisei: 1989-)."
It's Heisei 26 at present.


●子供たちの笑顔がはじけるフリーダムスペースよ。
 Kodomotachi no egao ga hajikeru freedom space yo
― A free-activity space bursting with the smiles of childred.

●甘ブリのは速さとスリルが売りものよ。
 Amaburi no ha hayasa to thrill ga urimono yo
― Amaburi prides itself on its speed and thrills.

売り(もの): big appeal, sales point

●どれもこれも微妙なアトラクションばかりではないか!
 Dore mo kore mo bimyouna attraction bakari deha nai ka
― Every attraction here is miserable!
