It's also called お鉢巡り(Ohachi-meguri).
There are two opinions about the origin of this term.
- The summit comprises 8(八, hachi) peaks called 八神峰(Hasshinpou).
- The crater lookes like 鉢(hachi: a basin).

It is the custom to go clockwise, which is derived from Buddhism.
