Barakamon Episode 11

東京にいます (訳: よせおっ)
Tokyo ni imasu (Yoseo)
― I Am in Tokyo

This subtitle is different than usual, words within brackets is dialectal.
The original form is よそにいる(yoso ni iru).

よそ(other place)に(in)いる(be) → よそにおる(yoso ni oru) → よせおっ(yoseo)

The subtitle of episode 6 was "よそんもん(Yosonmon: Guys From Tokyo)."
For Naru and the islanders, the other place means Tokyo.

とっくの昔に届いてるよ。
 Tokku no mukashi ni todoiteru yo
― It arrived age ago.

とっくの/に: long before, already = とうの/に(tou no/ni)

●これだけでかいと立派なもんだな。
 Kore dake dekai to rippa na mon da na
― As huge as it is, it sure looks grand.

見習いとはいえ、川藤も画商の端くれ
  Minarai to ha ie Kawafuji mo gashou no hashikure
― Even if you're still an apprentice, you're something of an art dealer, Kawafuji.

端くれだから大きさしか褒めないのか?
 Hashikure dakara ookisa shika homenai no ka
― Are you only praising the size because you don't know any better?

~の端くれ: fag end of, not much of, a bit of

The word has the connotation of humility or pride.

●一応、お土産にストラップ買って来たんだけど。
 Ichiou omiyage ni strap kattekitan dakedo
― For what it's worth, I bought a cell phone strap to give him.

●鳴華に出品する前に酷評されたらどうするよ?
 Naruka ni shuppin suru mae ni kokuhyou saretara dou suru yo
― What'll I do if he lambastes it before I exhibit at Naruka?

酷評: severe criticism

大胆人目も引くし。良い字だと思うぞ。
 Daitan de hitome mo hiku shi. Ii ji da to omou zo
― But I think it's good calligraphy. Very bold and eye-catching.

人目(hítome): public eye
※一目(hitóme / ichimoku): a look

●要するにまぐれってことか?
 Yousuruni magure tte koto ka
― In short, you're saying it's a fluke?

●ちょっと冒険しちゃいましたって言って乗り切ればいいだろ?
 Chotto bouken shichaimashita tte itte norikireba ii daro
― You could just describe it as "a little experimentation."

冒険: adventure

世界に一つしかない花を元々特別なオンリーワンなんだよ!
 Sekai ni hitotsu shika nai hana woMotomoto tokubetu na only one nanda yo
― A flower unlike any other in the world! The one that was always my special "only one"!

遠回しにナンバーワンじゃなくていいって言ってんのか?
 Toomawashi ni number one ja nakute ii tte itten no ka
― Are you implying that you don't have to be number one?

The lines are derived from a big hit song, "世界に一つだけの花 (Sekai ni hitotsu dake no hana)" by SMAP.

遠回しに言う: imply, insinuate

農家漁師にはならないか。
 Nouka ha ryoushi ni ha naranai ka
― A farmer cannot become a fisherman, you say?

●面白い例えをするね、半田君
 Omoshiroi tatoe wo suru ne Handa-kun
― That's a very amusing analogy, Handa-kun.

― I was thinking about which flowers would represent each of us.

 Handa-kun ni ha kare ni shika kakenai ji wo kiwamete hoshii
― I'd prefer that Handa-kun master writing calligraphy of his own.

●許すと言って誘きき寄せてから、長々と人の道徳について説教しようと思ってたんだが。
 Yurusu to itte obikiyosete kara naganagato hito no doutoku ni tsuite sekkyou shiyou to omottetan daga
― I only said that to lure you back here, so I could give you a long lecture on human morality.

●もう二度と衝動で動いてはいけないよ。
 Mou nido to shoudou de ugoite ha ikenai yo
― Just refrain from behaving so impulsively in the future.

●笑っちゃだめ、笑っちゃだめ、笑っちゃだめ…
 Waraccha dame waraccha dame waraccha dame
― Don't laugh, don't laugh, don't laugh...

●この字は試作品
 Kono ji ha shisakuhin
― This calligraphy is a test work!

●小学校の課題のような一文字に夜空の星が見える。
 Shougakkou no kadai no youna hitomoji ni yozorano hoshi ga mieru
― THe character is one you'd see in a grade school assignment, but in it, I can see the stars of the night sky.

Acutually, "星" is the kanji that 2nd grade elementary students learn.

●暗闇に取り残されたような心細さと闇の中でしか見えない光。
 Kurayami ni torinokosareta youna kokorobososa to yami no naka de shika mienai hikari
― It shows the hopelessness of being left behind in the dark, along with the light that's only visible in darkness.

心細さ: loneliness

●すみません、エンストしました。
 Sumimasen ensuto shimashita
― I'm sorry, the engine stalled.

エンスト is an abbreviation of "engine stall."

●逃げるなよ、薄情者!
 Nigeru na yo hakujou mono
― Don't run away, cold-hearted jerk!

Sensei's eating a yokan?

●俺ってさ、思っていた以上に環境に左右されるタイプなんだ。
  Ore tte sa omotteita ijou ni kankyou ni sayuu sareru type nanda
― It turns out I'm more influenced by my environment than I ever knew.

左右される: subject to

●人生に波風浮いた話もなかったってことだな。
 Jinsei ni namikaze mo uita hanashi mo nakatta tte koto da na
― because you'd never had any major distress in your life.

波(wind)風(wave): trouble, disturbance
浮いた話: romantic gossip, juicy story

●き、緊縛?!
 Ki kinbaku
― B-Bondage?!

●根は優しくて俗に言う「ツンデレ」と呼ばれて誰からも愛されていたのに。
 Ne ha yasashikute zoku ni iu tsun-dere to yobarete dare kara mo aisarete ita noni
― he was kind at heart, the type young people would call "pickly-sweet," and beloved by all.

●今となっては「ツンバカ」?!
 Ima to natte ha tsun-baka
― And yet, now he's become "pickly-stupid"?!

どっちに転んでも萌えないじゃない!
 Docchi ni koron demo moenai ja nai
― Neither part of that is lovable at all!

どっちに転んでも: either way, in either case,

●おい!まさぐるな!
 Oi! Masaguru na!
― Hey! Quit digging around!

まさぐる: fumble

●げんこつばかますぞ!
 Genkotsu ba kamasu zo
― Or I'm gonna feed ya my fist!

かます is a crude expression for "say"or "do(threaten, hit, astonish)."

持つべきものは親友だろ?
 Motsubeki mono ha shinyuu daro
What you need most are friends, right?

Its original form is 持つべきものは友(motsubeki mono ha tomo).

●相変わらず大人顔負け気遣いだよ。
 Aikawarazu otona kaomake no kizukai dayo
― Your consideration wold put adults to shame.

顔負け: losing face

  Okizukai naku Zabuton ha jibun de youi shimasu node
― Don't trouble yourself. We'll get our own ...

翻弄されてるな。
 Honrou sareteru na
― They're messing with him.

●待っちょっけんね!
 Maccho kken ne
― We're waitin' for ya!

It's "待ってるからね(matteru kara ne)"  in the standard Japanese language.

●息子の伸びしろを決めるのは私達ではない。
 Musuko no nobishiro wo kimeru no ha watashitachi de ha nai
― It's not for us to dicate our son's direction in life.

伸びしろ: room for growth, potential, scope

渋いな!かっこいいな!
 Shibui na! kakkoii na!
― He's so dignified! So cool!

― Tha snack choices are rather refined, too.

― A work done using all my ability.

渾(all over) + 身(body)

― "Stone Wall."

That stone wall to protect against hurricanes in the last episode turned out to be foreshadowing.

●出来る弟子ば持った先生は神に感謝せろ!
 Dekiru deshi ba motta sensei ha kami ni kansha sero
― Sensei'd better thank God for givin' him such capable disciples!

見習い ≒ 弟子

●もう美和ちゃん、いい加減、機嫌直してよ
 Mou Miwa-chan ii kagen kigen naoshite yo
― Miwa-chan, just snap out of it already!

●1位と2位じゃ雲泥の差じゃろうがい!
 Ichi-i to ni-i ja undei no sa jarou gai
― There's a world of difference between first and second!

雲(cloud) + 泥(mud) ⇒ heaven and earth ⇒ light and shade, chalk and cheese

ブチギレ?!
 Buchi-gire
― You're that mad?!

ぶち(buchi) is an intensive adverb.

  Buchimakasu zo
―  I will job you!
