恋人たちはトレンディじゃんよ
Koibito tachi ha trendy janyo
― Lovers Are Trendy, Baby
In Japan, romantic drama called "トレンディドラマ(Trendy Drama)" was pupular around 1990.
Though it's a Japanese-English word, the term "trendy" itself has sounded a bit old-fashioned for us.
Trendy Drama doesn't have formal definition, but has the following features.
- Both hero and heroine are young and popular actors.
- Main characters are handsome and beautiful.
- They live in condo above their means, which have no lived-in feel.
- It reflects place and lifestyle that drew attention at the time.
- Character diagram is complicated, but definitely not messy.
